Mix paints, grind pigments, pour into vials
To begin with the paints and coagulants are thoroughly mixed together in a container. The next important step is the trituration of the pigments. In the old days the painter's apprentice would have done this with a pestle and a glass plate. Today we triturate the coloured substances at high pressure between the rollers of a triple roll mill. In order to achieve Stockmar's typical watercolour quality, our employees have to show a fair amount of skill - the formula, process duration and pressure must all be exactly coordinated to yield the right transparency, granular size and colour intensity.
